FROM HAMBURG TO CANADA
During the big fire of Hamburg in the year 1842, the whole historic centre burst into flames upto the road which has accordingly been named ‘Brandsende’ End of the fire. The whole area lay in ruins but was rebuilt, the beautiful Ballindamm becoming the new Boulevard of the city.
From this time onwards, the builing No.9 has been in family property. The Canadahaus from 1907 was bombed in the second world war and was destroyed in 1943, but was rebuilt in its new style in 1947.

TRANSPORT TO AMERICA & CANADA
The Hanseatic gateway to the new World, the name CANADAHAUS originated from the Sale of Passenger ship tickets from Hamburg to the Americas and Canada by the Shipping company Richard Boar & Company who were based at No. 9. Not only did they sell the tickets for the passage, but also acted as a money exchange & took care of all organizational matters for the trip.
The agency was working in partnership with the Hamburg Amerika Linie, later and still today known as Hapag-Lloyd who later built their own prestigious building on the Alster, Ballindamm, No. 25. In 1907 the CANADAHAUS was newly rebuilt and became the base for the Canadian Shipping Line, Canadian Pacific and hence the origin of the name Canadahaus.

WORK IN SUPERB LOCATION
The CANADAHAUS is perfectly positioned in the very heart of the city centre of Hamburg on the Ballindamm No. 9, directly on the Binnenalster and very easily accessible by car and public transport.

VIP NEIGHBOURHOOD
The Binnenalster is nearby the historic buildings and importent monuments of Hamburg. For example, the town hall, the old & new art hall, the Jungfernstieg area and more. Also the famous hotels “Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten”
and Hotel Atlantic are near to the Ballindamm. Good shopping areas are the Mönckberg street, the Europa Passage, the Neuer Wall and all the exclusive shopping areas in the city.

IMPROVEMENT DISCTRICT
The Ballindamm was redesigned and rebuilt in 2019 & 2020, the aim being to give greater space to the promenade, beneficial for both cyclists and pedestrians adding further shape and character therefore heightening the image of a modern metropolitan city which Hamburg undoubtedly is.
The result has been formidable with the Ballindamm becoming an elegant and beautiful boulevard, right on the edge of the water, very tastefully designed with green resting areas, new granite tiling and attractive lighting, thus creating a wonderful sense of wellbeing, space, restfulness and revitalisation.

IDEAS FOR THE RECONFIGURATION
The traffic flows in both directions enabling easy access for all vehicles and cyclists and there are spacious promenades on both sides of the road, granting easy walking for pedestrians.
The new cycling path is the widest that Hamburg has to offer with yet still enough space for delivery vans and parking.
